Since the new year officially starts this week, I figured I would use today's weigh-in as my official starting weight for my re-start. I also took measurements of my waist, hips and bust. I'm of course, not happy with any of it. But, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. Shit happens. It's happened and now it's time to finally kick this obesity/laziness monster to the curb. 2012 was not a great year. I experienced a lot of loss followed by grief and depression. I obviously didn't handle it all to well. So, while I cannot control loss in that aspect, I can control how I handle it. I will work much harder to handle loss in a much healthier way. Typically when I lost someone close, I'd develop this attitude/mentality... well we're all going to die someday so I might as well do whatever the hell I want; that includes eating whatever I want. So I do and then I gain weight and then I feel like crap. That's gotta stop. So God forbid I lose someone close this year, but if I do I will make a better effort to handle it differently. I can grieve without the comfort of food.
So here are the numbers.
Weight: 309.8
Measurements:
Waist: 53
Hips: 63
Bust: 50.5
Good lord! Anyway, it starts now.
I will make mini goals as opposed to large goals. My first mini goal: Lose 10 lbs. That will get me back below 300.
My first change: Reduce the amount of soda pop I drink and drink more water. Even flavored water is better than all the soda pop I drink. I've been drinking it daily and that's going to stop. To begin, I'll have it only as a treat if we go to the movies.
Exercise. I'll start with shooting for at least three days a week. I should be able to handle that.
Weigh-ins will be on Saturday as that is when I weigh in for Weight Watcher's anyway. No, I don't really follow the Weight Watcher plan and don't know that I will. Not sure, haven't decided.
I absolutely hate tracking my food, but I will try. I have an account through My Fitness Pal. I'll also blog daily.
That's all for now. Take care.
Peace.Love.Smile

Setting Some Goals
Things have been rough but I shouldn't lose complete focus on my own health. I need some goals...here they are.
Weight...long term 199 lbs. Short term goal 255. My current weight as of this morning...276.
Fitness... 25 mile bike ride. Working my way up to a century ride. That's 100 miles.
I need to do this.
Peace, love, smiles.

Journey to Surgery Has Begun!
I attended the surgical seminar on October 26.
I had an appointment with the nurse and Internist on November 3. Fun stuff - weighing, measuring, photo op (ick). Then the doctor and I went over my medical history and he did a minor exam (listened to me breathe, checked the eyes and ears and felt for the liver, etc.)
Because I've been taking Naproxen for my knee pain and at times Ibuprofen for PMS symptoms, I need to get an Endoscopy done. That appointment is scheduled for November 17. I'm a little nervous as I've never had one done before. A few people have told me it's no big deal. I hope they're right.
Yesterday, I got my pre-surgical blood work done. I had to give 11 vials or so. That wasn't much fun. After about the 8th vial, I started to feel a little funny, but not bad. The blood flow started to slow a little, but then it picked back up when I pleaded "please don't stop!" :)
I have an appointment with the surgeon and the behaviorist on November 25. At this point, I've pretty much decided on the Duodenal Switch.
Oh and you know what? I had no idea that so many people do vlogs on You Tube. I searched Duodenal Switch and came across quite of few...so I've been watching/listening to some video diaries. So far, everyone that I've come across has had great success with the surgery and are very happy with their decisions.

4 Golden Rules
I did not get to see the show "I Can Make You Thin" that I've been hearing a lot about, but I did check out the website so I could see what these golden rules were.
When I read through them, I learned that they're not anything I haven't heard before.
1. When you're hungry, EAT
2. Eat what you want, not what you think you should.
3. Eat Consciously and enjoy every mouthful.
4. When you think you're full, STOP eating.
Don't they seem so simple? Of course I'm going to eat when I'm hungry. Unfortunately many of us emotional eaters also eat when we're NOT hungry. Eating what I want sounds pretty good doesn't it. I'll have that cheeseburger, fries and donut for desert. I'm not full yet...lets keep going! ha ha. Honestly, items 1 and 4, I think are similar to what I've heard from others that did the Weigh Down plan through their church. Item 3 is what my husband was told after he had gastric bypass surgery. Eat slowly putting your fork down between each bite and chew atleast 20 times. This gives time for your brain to realize your no longer hungry and helps avoid the over eating.
All of this got me thinking this morning as I was driving to work. I visioned some of the pictures of my great, great grandparents and others from the past and you know...not one of them were fat. None of them. So...obesity is not very old at all. And, God did not make us fat. Man made us fat by all the inventions of convenience (like the microwave) and quick fix box meals, etc. Families of days gone by grew their own food, worked the fields (exercise), ate when they were hungry. And, did emotional eating even exist back then? Why did that start? I found myself quite intrigued by all of my thoughts. I started to think...wow several years from now my distant family members will be looking back at old photos and see a lot of fat people. Yea, that is something to be proud of huh? Not! So, while I don't have a farm or fields to plow and don't grow my own food I think one of my goals is to starting thinking outside the box when it comes to eating. Convenience is nice when it comes to time...but the only thing it's done for me is added poundage. I'm going to make an effort to eat more natural foods that I would find growing in the fields. That way, I can control the amount of salt that goes in it. I'll be much better off. I want my distant family members to look back and be proud of their heritage as I am of mine. The obesity cycle in my family stops here and now with me!! I can do this!!
If I don't make it back to the blog before Sunday - Happy Easter to all. Enjoy the time with your loved ones. Please don't beat yourself up if you choose to enjoy a little candy or some other treat on Easter. It's better to enjoy one piece than forbid yourself of it and risk an all out binge some other time. It happens.

I'm Not Alone
Do you know how good it feels to realize that I'm not alone in this weightloss battle? I always hear about how "fat" america is and that obesity is at an all time high. But you know... it seems like everytime I go somewhere, I always felt like I was the fattest one there. I felt like I was the only "fat" one there. At times I found myself thinking, if obesity is on the rise, then where the heck are these people? Why do I feel like I'm all alone in a world full of skinny people who have no idea how I feel. Many of them look at me and assume I'm some fat lazy pig. Well, today I was feeling especially depressed again about my weight and decided to google "lose 200 pounds". I was curious to see what would come up. I did not expect to find a blog of another woman who calls herself Chubby Chick who is also trying lose weight. In checking out her blog, I was excited. Not that I feel anyone should have to deal with morbid obesity, but I was excited to find that I'm not alone. The number on the scale is a large one and I'm not alone. The BMI is way higher than it should be and I'm not alone.
I cannot fit comfortably in a booth - I'm not alone
I cannot fit comfortable in a theater seat - I'm not alone
I cannot shop for clothes at WalMart or Target - I'm not alone
I REALLY WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL! - HEAR ME LOUD AND CLEAR "I'M NOT ALONE!!!"
I had mentioned the option of surgery and in all honesty, I'm really not that interested in it. I would much rather make the traditional method of healthy eating and exercise work for me. It can be done. Now that I know I'm not alone, maybe it'll be easier to stick to a plan. I look forward to building relationships with others who share my quest for better health.
